What’s Ahead

Providing a market update during a time of global uncertainty is no easy task. My usual sources offer differing predictions. For now, it’s best to keep things simple. As we head into spring, we expect the freight market to follow the usual seasonal trends. While major trade deals could shift the landscape, impact on freight will likely be gradual. Thankfully, our industry doesn’t move like the stock market.

We anticipate NW freight supply will remain weak until late summer or early fall. California produce will pick up in May, pushing outbound freight costs up there. As we transition to domestic crops, Mexican imports will fall, affecting freight rates along the border. Costs will rise for deliveries going to the border and decrease leaving from it.
Regardless of what lies ahead, SEND remains committed to the high level of service and communication we’re known for. As always, if you have questions or are looking for industry insight, don’t hesitate to call. I’m happy to share as well as listen.

And a reminder: May 13-15 is DOT Week. The DOT will be significantly increasing commercial vehicle safety inspections during these days. Both shippers and carriers should prepare to avoid shipping delays.

Eggstortion!

Why are egg prices skyrocketing? There are two main reasons. The first is the Avian flu outbreak, which has led to the culling of hundreds of millions of egg-laying birds across the US. The second reason is inflationary pressure – higher feed, fuel, and labor costs. Prices may be on the way down soon, but tariffs complicate the story.   Source: Statista & Visual Capitalist
